For those of you striving towards a healthy lifestyle, chances are you’ve tried MyFitnessPal (widely celebrated as the best calorie counting app ). Or perhaps journalling your food to ensure you’re eating a balanced diet has become second nature. But then Friday night arrives and you order a GBK Major Tom. Suddenly your macros are skewiff because what you just ate was definitely not ‘beef burger (generic)’.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with not tracking every meal. In fact, recent research applauds not calorie counting and suggest diet quality is king. But if you’re just getting started then having a framework to plan your food around can be helpful.

But, back to the problem at hand. A new app has launched that combines high street food menus with tailored nutritional advice.
Named Nutrifix the app displays detailed nutritional information for any meal from a list of 100 restaurants around you with all budgets and diets covered. All good, but where it really wins is these suggestions are personal to you. But, how? When registering with the app you’ll be asked a selection of questions. The app then matches menu choices to your goals.
So when you’re swamped at work with only 10 minutes for lunch, but a Boots meal deal will take up half your daily calorie allowance, just open up the app and it will use your phone’s location to suggest the healthiest meals in your area.
You can then use the in-app map to get to the restaurant or take advantage of the app’s partnership with Deliveroo and swipe right for delivery.
Definitely an upgraded use of the swipe right button.
Whatever meal you choose, the app will provide information on fat, saturated fat, protein, salt, calories and carbs, helping you stay aware of what you’re eating.
Nutrifix was born out of founder, Joel Burgess’, own personal list of healthiest meals to eat from high street restaurants. After friends asked to borrow the list, he decided to build it into an app that could be useful for everyone.
“We firmly believe that Nutrifix will change the way people eat when they’re on-the-go,” says Burgess. “It allows for complete transparency, telling you if that salad or tasty noodle dish really is as healthy as it looks.”
Calorie-counting is only half the story. Knowing where those calories come from is the next – much healthier – chapter.
